Hello, WorldView!

I still have a vivid memory of that day in early spring this year. Andy, energetic as always and driven by passion, introduced me to his favorite toys - an iPhone and a brand new iPod touch. You have to know that he is a very influential person - he was the guy who brought me to blogging - and of course my first Mac (one of the very first MacBooks) was just bought because he convinced me to do so.

Andy showed all that apps on his jailbroken devices to me and the moment I first met Locations I realized that this one is going to be Big! The one thing is, Locations was a really nice app with lots of useful features - the other thing is Andy´s vision of Locations. At this time he knew everything about webcams, websites with webcams, webservices for webcams, legal issues concerning webcams... Locations should not only be a iPhone app showing webcam images - this app was created to be the reference for all webcam apps on every mobile device. Andy´s ambition was to create perfectionism. No compromise was possible, not even imaginable.

Since yesterday, since Locations has become WorldView, his baby is available to the whole world of iPhone and iPod touch users via the app store. But not only the name changed. WorldView is a completely new application. Matured from all the lessons learned from the Locations development and especially a very constructive beta phase were some other very passionate people engaged in the development of WorldView. WorldView relies on the very stable platform, delivered by the guys from webcams.travel and now WorldView is also the reference app to show how you can materialize a webservice into a really useful application.

But WorldView is only the beginning. WorldView Live is going to be bigger, better, faster - ok, maybe not faster, but I´m not going to tell you anything about WorldView Live in this post. But curious as you are - subscribe to our rss feed and don´t forget to follow us - BuzzWorks - on twitter.

  1. Very well put. I have been following Locations, now WorkdView since its infancy on my then jailbroken iPhone. I was also part of the group of beta testers, leading up to its eventual release on iTunes. Great job, Andy! We appreciate all the hard work you have put into this excellent app -- the best webcam client app to date, only to be superceded by WorkdView Live, when that is completed. Looking forward to it!
